12 Minute Yoga Class – San Salute A Breakdown

We break down Sun Salute A, or Surya Namaskar A, in this video using 3 of my favorite variations. There are tons of different ways to practice Sun Salutations and each style of yoga and each teacher you take from will probably have their favorite!

The word Surya = Sun. The word Namaskar comes from the root word of Namas = to bow, to adore, to honor.

Sun Salutes are fantastic to warm up your body and prepare for a full asana or meditation practice, or used on their own as a mini moving meditation. You’ll often see practices of 108 Sun Salutes on the Solstice or Equinox.

Mountain Pose / Tadasana
Upward Salute (or Extended Mountain) / Urdhva Hastasana
Forward Fold / Uttanasana
Halfway Lift / Ardha Uttanasana
High Plank
Low Plank / Chaturanga Dandasana
Cobra / Bhujangasana
Upward Facing Dog / Urdhva Mukha Svanasana
Downward Facing Dog / Adho Mukha Svanasana
